development issues.  The seminar aims are to:

 Enhance awareness, knowledge and understanding of international development issues;
 Engage participants with the challenges of development and their role as agents for change;
 Support participants in their individual and collective efforts to effect positive social change.

Target Groups
The seminars are primarily aimed at under-graduate and post-graduate students from Queen’s University.
However, the seminars will also be of interest to the staff, volunteers and Management Committees of
development organisations, black and minority ethnic groups, and other civil society groups involved in
development work.

Facilitators
The seminar facilitators are highly experienced development practitioners drawn from the non-

A talk by Keith Bolender held on 5 October 2013 in An Culturlann, Belfast. This talk is based on a new book by Keith Bolender, a freelance journalist living in Toronto who has written extensively on Cuban matters for a number of North American publications. His new book is titled Cuba Under Siege and expertly explores how Cuban society has been affected by 50 years of ‘non stop hostility from the world’s most powerful nation’. It offers extensive historical analysis, firsthand interviews and expert comment. In his talk, Keith summarises the book’s analysis of US efforts to undermine the Cuban revolution and how this has impacted on Cuban society.  8 Oct 2013, 04:13 Information Officer
