International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Proclaimed in resolution A/RES/2142 (XXI) in 1966 by the United Nations General Assembly, and observed annually on March 21st, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is a call to the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination after the events in South Africa in 1960 where police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville.
