Centre for Global Education Receives New Grant from NIPSA for Palestinian Refugee Project

The Centre for Global Education is delighted to announce that the trade union NIPSA has awarded a two-year grant to support our project titled “Chance to Learn: Educating Palestinian and Syrian Refugees in Lebanon”.  The project will provide education activities in 2024 and 2025 that will enhance the formal education and employment opportunities of 100 Palestinian and Syrian children aged 12-16 years.  The project will be delivered in three Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon: Burj Barajneh camp in Beirut, and El Buss and Rashidieh refugee camps in Tyre, 80km south of Beirut.

The children will receive training in key areas of the school’s curriculum: Mathematics, English and Arabic, literacy, life skills, and Arts and Crafts. Each child will receive a snack every day and will be taken on two field    trips outside the camp to leisure parks and facilities where they can play and have fun. The children will be supported to develop personal competencies, and life and interpersonal skills which can prepare them for re-engagement with education or for vocational training toward employment.  The project will also employ a social worker to provide one-to-one and group psychosocial support sessions for both the children and their parents on the management of stress and trauma.  The project starts on 1 March 2024 and ends on 31 August 2025.
