Teacher Training

The Global Learning Programme (GLP) is a new formal education project managed by the Centre for Global Education and funded by the UK government. The GLP supports schools to embed development education and global citizenship as regular practice across curriculum subjects and through whole school initiatives.

This will contribute to more young people having a thorough knowledge and understanding of global poverty and the ways it can be reduced. The main aim of the GLP is to increase and improve delivery of global learning in 50% of grant aided primary, secondary and special schools in Northern Ireland through the provision of high quality teacher training and support at Key Stages 2 and 3. Quantitative and qualitative research will monitor the impact of delivery in schools.

Schools participating in the programme select a teacher to lead on global learning, who attends specialised CPD training (with sub-cover provided) and shares what they've learned within the school.

More than 350 schools are currently involved in the GLP and there is funding to support roughly another 150 more over the next year.

We are not recruiting schools into the GLP at present, but will be again shortly. Our next training days will be held during November 2017 in locations across Northern Ireland.

If your school is interested in participating then, please get in touch with us:
