Teacher Training

The Global Learning Programme (GLP) is a formal education project managed by the Centre for Global Education and funded by the UK government. The GLP supports schools to embed development education and global citizenship as regular practice across curriculum subjects and through whole school initiatives. This will contribute to more young people having a thorough knowledge and understanding of global poverty and the ways it can be reduced.

Schools participating in the the GLP select a teacher to lead on global learning, who attends specialised CPD training (with sub-cover provided) and then cascades what they've learned throughout the school.

The GLP first launched in 2015 with the core aim of increasing and improving delivery of global learning in 50% of grant aided primary, secondary and special schools in Northern Ireland. As of December 2017, this target has been achieved, with global learning support provided to more than 500 NI schools.

Quantitative and qualitative research has been undertaken to monitor the impact of the GLP on schools over the last few years. A final report will be published shortly.

We are not recruiting new schools into the core GLP programme at present, but hope to do so again very soon.
