The Centre for Global Education has commissioned a new research report titled Poverty in Northern Ireland: From the Local to the Global that comprises a systematic literature review from 2020-2024 of poverty reports in Northern Ireland that discern the main drivers of poverty and persistent trends. The research was compiled by the School of Social Sciences, Education & Social Work at Queen's University Belfast and funded by the Halifax Foundation Empower Programme. The report is distinguished from comparable research studies by framing poverty in Northern Ireland in a UK, all-Ireland and international context by drawing upon international comparators from Europe and the rest of the world. It makes informed recommendations that could support effective anti-poverty policy interventions in Northern Ireland.
Two launches of the research report have been organised. The first will be held on Thursday, 16 October 2025 at 11.00am in the Canada Room, Queen’s University Belfast. It is aimed at academics and the international development sector and registration at Eventbrite is available here. The second launch will be held in NICVA (61 Duncairn Gardens, Belfast BT15 2GB) on Wednesday, 29 October 2025 at 11.00am and will be targeted at the community and voluntary sector. Registration is available here.
