Fully Funded Teacher Professional Learning
Teaching Controversial Issues with Confidence
The Centre for Global Education is offering post-primary teachers across Northern Ireland fully funded, comprehensive Teacher Professional Learning (TPL) that aims to enhance classroom practice in global learning. This fully funded training will equip teachers with the skills and confidence to facilitate discussions on sensitive global topics in the classroom.
This TPL training equips teachers with confidence and practical strategies to:
- Navigate sensitive global topics professionally and objectively (e.g. racial injustice, climate injustice);
- Engage students with real-world issues that matter to them;
- Meet curriculum requirements through dynamic, contemporary content;
- Build critical thinking skills students need for their future.
Programme Outline:
One Senior Leaders/Board of Governors Session:
Introduction to Global Citizenship Education (1 hour)
Three Teacher Workshops (across all subject areas):
Each session: 2 hours
- Teaching Controversial Issues: facilitative approaches to immigration and other global issues.
- Measuring Impact: evidence-based assessment of student engagement and learning.
- Sharing Best Practice including high quality resources.
We can deliver staff development training to teachers in your school or to staff from a school cluster affiliated to an Area Learning Community. All training is delivered on site at no cost to schools.
